In the new Quick Trade bar, you can choose to see updated quotes every five seconds. On the right, select the button that looks like an 'a' with arrows circling it. Selecting it will turn the 5-second auto refresh on and off. That way, you can react even quicker to market opportunities.
Scottrader® Streaming Quotes offers up to three different layouts that can be personalized to match your trading interests. To create a layout, start at the Scottrader Quote Grid. Then, open all the windows you want to include in your layout using the buttons at the top of the Quote Grid window. Assign a location to each window, and then click Save This Layout in the bottom left corner. From the Save Layout box, you can choose to save your settings as Layout 1, Layout 2 or Layout 3.
In Scottrade OptionsFirst, you can easily toggle back and forth between your accounts on any screen. In the top right corner, select the Manage Accounts button. The pop-up box will auto populate your different accounts. Select the circle next to the one you want to open, then click the Change Account button.

Two important things to keep in mind are that those figures represent the maximum contribution allowed, and that you don't have to do it all at once. For the everyday person who can't write a check for thousands of dollars at a time, a much more practical and economically responsible way to save can be in small periodic increments.

Many trading signals can be found by analyzing the option markets. One widely used signal is measuring anticipated moves around expected events such as earnings. This signal can be found by analyzing the at-the-money straddle prior to the earnings release.
Read MoreOne of the myths in the investing world is the idea that having a short put position is a very risky strategy. Many people who consider a short put a very risky trade would probably say in the same conversation that entering a good 'til canceled (GTC) buy order for a stock is not a risky trade. What's interesting is both a short put and a GTC buy limit order share many characteristics. They also have very similar profiles when you're considering the risk side of the equation.
