The Commissioner of Railway Safety will conduct an inquiry into the bridge-pipeline collapse incident near Thane (in India's western state of Maharashtra) that left two dead even as a criminal case was registered against the contractor.
"An inquiry into the bridge-pipeline collapse will be conducted by Commissioner of Railway Safety," Central Railway (CR) spokesperson S Mudgerikar said Saturday.
He also said a case of criminal negligence has been filed against the contractor of the under-construction bridge.
"A case of negligence has been registered by Railway with the Government Railway Police (GRP) against the TMC contractor for the death of two persons in the mishap," he said.
Meanwhile, train services on the CR section, suspended due to the incident, were restored Saturday. All train services, including the long-distance ones, were restored at 11.40 AM (IST).
An under-construction bridge fell on a suburban train near Thane, about 30 kms here, Friday killing two persons-- a motorman and a passenger-- and injuring over ten.
Part of an adjacent water pipeline too collapsed, worsening the situation and crippling train services, which are considered the lifeline of commercial hub Mumbai.
