In an initiative to remain connected with the public on regular basis, Mumbai Police on Thursday launched its bi-monthly magazine at Police Gymkhana in southern part of west Indian city Mumbai.

Claiming to be the first of its kind in India, the magazine -- The Protector -- is aimed at presenting the law enforcing authorities in the right perspective, police said.

"Major changes are taking place in terms of modernisation of equipment used by the police and the techniques of training to prepare them to face any challenge," Additional Chief Secretary for Home Chandra Iyengar said after releasing the first issue of the magazine.

"We are emphasising on over all improvement of the police and this initiative (launch of the magazine) is a part of various plans chalked out for them," he said.

"The objective of police is to protect and serve the community. It is our motto. The Protector reflects this commitment and the values that the police force stands for," said City Police Chief D Sivanandan.
